History

The brigade was formed in June 2009 as part of the

Operation Danube, the suppression of the Prague Spring. After the end of the operation the regiment stayed in Czechoslovakia with the division and was based at Frenštát pod Radhoštěm.[3] In early 1990 the regiment withdrew to Dzerzhinsk.[1]

In August 2014 the brigade's units fought in the

T-72B3 tank of the 1st Company of the brigade's 3rd Battalion was captured by troops of the Ukrainian 51st Mechanized Brigade.[6] During the Ukrainian forces' withdrawal from Ilovaisk on 29 August, Donbas Battalion fighters were able to seize and destroy another two brigade T-72B3 tanks near Chervonosilske village,[7][8] capturing two prisoners: Ivan Badanin and Eugen Chernov,[5] as well as some paratroopers of the 31st Air Assault Brigade.[9]

In November 2014 the brigade became part of the

1st Guards Tank Army.[10] In February 2015 the brigade's units fought in Battle of Debaltseve.[11]

In 2022, the brigade was disbanded.

The division was reestablished from the 6th Separate Tank Brigade under the command of Colonel Yevgeny Doroshenko on 1 December 2021 as part of the 1st Guards Tank Army at Mulino.[14][15] The command structure and composition of the division remain unclear. Among others, the 47th include elements of the former 6th Tank Brigade,[16] now forming the 26th Tank Regiment,[17][14] the 7th Separate Reconnaissance Battalion,[17] the 1077th Separate Material Supply Battalion,[citation needed] and the 63rd Separate Anti-Aircraft Missile Battalion.[citation needed]

The division allegedly suffered significant losses in personnel and equipment.[18] One of the division's tank regiments (26th Tank Regiment) may have been neutralized in March 2022 near Kamyanka, Kharkiv region.[19][20]

The 26th Tank Regiment took part in the

2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine on the eastern front around Kharkiv,[21] and suffered substantial losses.[22][23] A 1st Guards Tank Army document covering losses until 15 March, published by Ukrainian intelligence, revealed that the 26th Tank Regiment had lost four killed, 13 wounded and sixteen vehicles, and the 7th Separate Reconnaissance Battalion had lost five killed and 13 wounded.[17] Reportedly, conscripts from the 26th Tank Regiment refused to fight in Ukraine and requested to terminate their contracts.[24]

On April 12, 2022, Ukrainian Defence Intelligence wrote that soldiers of the 47th TD had failed to receive promised additional payments for fighting in Ukraine and that the military leadership had ignored appeals for the money.[25]
