The Assam leaf turtle (Cyclemys gemeli) is a species of turtle in the family Geoemydidae.[1][3][4] The species is native to India, Nepal, Bhutan, and Bangladesh.[1]

Etymology

The

herpetologist Richard Gemel (born 1948).[4][5]

Description

The

plastron is unpatterned and dark brown. The head is brown, and the throat and neck are uniformly dark. The bridge is also dark brown.[6][7]

Geographic range

The Assam leaf turtle can be found in northeastern India, Nepal, Bhutan,[1][4] and Bangladesh.[1] Its geographic range may extend into Myanmar.[1]

Habitat

The preferred natural

wetlands and forest.[1]

Reproduction

C. gemeli reaches sexual maturity at around five years of age.[1] Like all turtles, it is oviparous.[4]
