Because Music is an independent record label with headquarters in Paris and London.[2] Because Music SAS is the main label, with Because Music Ltd handling the British artist roster.[3]

Because Music was founded in 2005 by former president of

Justice, along with actress and songwriter Charlotte Gainsbourg and husband-and-wife duo Amadou & Mariam.[4]

It holds an exclusive license for all artists on

Phantasy.[5] Because Music is the distributor for select Atlantic Records subsidiaries like Big Beat and 300 Entertainment

In 2017, Because acquired the catalogues of over 60 artists from

In July 2023, Because issued a

DMCA takedown notice against the open-source YouTube player NewPipe, temporarily resulting in their host website being removed from Google search results.[8]
The DMCA notice would later be rescinded with no further comment, and the website's search status was restored.
