Faridpur is a city located in southern Bangladesh. It is the largest municipality in Dhaka Division in the city proper. It is a major commercial hub in southern Bangladesh and the headquarters of Faridpur District and Faridpur Sadar Upazila.

History

Faridpur was formerly known as Fatehabad. Faridpur is named after Shah Farid (Sheikh Fariduddin), disciple of the famous saint and dervish Khwaja Main Chishti and famous Sufi saint of Faridpur.

Location

It has an area of 66.24 km2 and a population of 121,632.[1] Faridpur is Bangladesh's proposed ninth division & thirteenth city corporation.[2]

According to the

2011 Bangladesh census, Faridpur had 27,384 households and a population of 121,632. 20,833 (17.13%) were under 10 years of age. Faridpur had a literacy rate (age 7 and over) of 77.27%, compared to the national average of 51.8%, and a sex ratio of 957 females per 1000 males.[3]
