Description Detail from a late 14th-century copy of the Histoire ancienne jusqu'à César, ÖNB Cod. 2576, fol. 39r. This first portion of the Histoire ancienne is a reworking of Genesis. The text at the top of this page deals with Joseph gathering grain in preparation for the lean years (Gen. 41:46-57). The image shows Joseph overseeing the storage of grain in the Pyramids and is similar to the imagery found in the mosaics in the atrium of St Mark's Basilica in Venice.
