Summary

Description

The Austin Motor Company of England built cars from 1905. In 1952 the Austin Motor Company merged with Morris Motors Limited to form BMC (British Motor Corporation), they sold Morris, Austin, Wolseley, Riley and MG cars. The new Farina style Saloons were introduced in 1958. BMC now shared body styles with all its brands. Three sized cars were available, and all got updates in 1961. In production until 1968. The only compact available was the Austin A40 Farina Mid size 4 cyl cars were; Austin A55 Cambridge Mk II, full width grille, update A60 Morris Oxford Series V, full width grille, update Series VI Wolseley 15/60, upmarket, narrow grille, update 16/60 Riley 4/68, upmarket, narrow grille, twin carb, update 4/72 MG Magnette Mk III, wider grille, twin carb, update Mk IV A Cambridge Countryman estate and Oxford Traveller estate appeared in 1960. With the update, the 1489cc engine was upsized to 1622cc the rear fins reduced in size, side chrome different and the grille revised. The 1622cc was introduced in Australia in 1959, earlier than in the UK. In 1962 Australia introduced a 2433cc six cylinder powered version, the Austin Freeway and Wolseley 24/80.
