The VL SS Group A were the 1st cars built by HSV (Holden Special Vehicles), Peter Brocks HDT came to an end after an argument with Holden, Holden started up their own performance vehicle division; HSV, they contracted the British TWR (Tom Walkinshaw Racing) to help them build a performance car. It became the 1st Holden V8 to be fuel injected. It also came with 4 bolt mains and twin throttle body inlet manifold. The body kit was designed to minimise drag and maximise down force. 750 were made.
This car, in this livery, raced in the 1989 Tooheys 1000 at Bathurst, finishing 7th, it was driven by Win Percy and Neil Crompton.
The following year, the car won the race, again driven by Win Percy, but partnered by Allan Grice this time
