English: Butterfly-shaped handiwork created by means of the so called tatting technique. Every thread and knot is visible in exquisite detail. This very fine level of resolution was derived by merging 4 precursor images taken at sensor positions just one pixel apart.
Deutsch: Handarbeit in Schmetterlingsform, ausgeführt als Schiffchenarbeit (Occhi). Jeder Faden und jeder Knoten ist bis ins feinste Detail sichtbar. Diese außerordentlich feine Bildauflösung beruht auf die Aufnahmemethode "Pixel Shift", bei der der Sensor um jeweils einen Pixel verschoben wird, so dass, wie hier, vier präzise Vorläuferaufnahmen entstehen, die im Nachgang zur fertigen Aufnahme verschmolzen werden. |

Technical Details / Pixel Shift Technology
- The pixel shift technology is based on tiny movements of the sensor over a distance of only one pixel (or in some instances even 0,5 pixel) and is only implemented within a small number of camera models.
- Depending on the software installed on these cameras the pixel shifted sensor normally creates 4, 8, or 16 precursor images (some models deviate from these numbers) which are merged into one with a superior level of resolution.
- In this instance - a 4-image pixel shift with the Sony Alpha 7R IV - the camera sensor takes an initial image and then moves through 4 positions (as seen on the final image):
> start at pixel at lower left > then 1 pixel up > then 1 pixel right > then 1 pixel down. - The Bayer colour pattern moves in sync (i.e., from green > to red > to other green > to blue).
- Thus each pixel is supplied with each of the three RGB colours (albeit with 2x green) and the resulting image need not be averaged over overlapping blocks of 4 pixels, but will depict every single pixel with both its full colour potential and with enhanced resolution.
