Dacian and Eastern Wars 401 proceeded to deal with a formidable danger that had arisenon the Danube. Here just across the river the Dacians had ConquestestabUshed a kingdom under an able ruler, Decebalus.He had already been able to make terms with Domitian,and his strength menaced the security of the Roman fron-tier. Trajan determined to crush him. Two campaignswere necessary, each taking two years (a.d. 101-102; 105-106). The struggle was fierce and desperate.
