The EngineerCorps is Western Electrics installa-tion men, now only a company ofabout 200. But these are mobiletroops and early in 1942, at thepeak of their campaign of switch-board and PBX installation. Westernhad two battalions—900 men on thefiring line. The SOS, WesternsWashington distributing house, ac-counts for another company of about175 which, at the height of the battleof wartime expansion, now past its ^° 571 employees of the C. & P. Ingenious time-saver: tin can andstring convey toll tickets from a tolloffice to temporary toll positions twofloors above via holes drilled throughthe floors.
