Vom 25. bis 28. Mai 1987 statteten der Präsident der Republik Costa Rica, Dr. Oscar Arias Sanchez, und Frau Margarita Penon de Arias der Bundesrepublik Deutschland einen Staatsbesuch ab. Sie wurden von dem Minister für auswärtige Beziehung und Kultur, Rodrigo Madrigal Nieto, dem Minister für Rohstoffe, Energie und Bergbau, Dr. Alvara Umana Quesada, und dem Minister für Planung und Wirtschaftspolitik, Dr. Otton Solis Fallas, begleitet. Während seines Aufenthalts in Bonn führte Präsident Arias politische Gespräche mit Bundespräsident Dr. Richard von Weizsäcker, Bundeskanzler Dr. Helmut Kohl, Bundesaußenminister Hans-Dietrich Genscher und weiteren Mitgliedern der Bundesregierung. Zum Abschluß besuchten die costaricanischen Gäste Berlin (West). Empfang, gegeben von der Geschäftsträgerin a.i. der Republik Costa Rica, Isabel Montero de Meissner, in der Godesberger Redoute - Präsident Arias hier im Gespräch mit Bundaußenminister Genscher (re.). li.
