One of the most attractive autumn flowers, blooming from August until killed by froet. Bulbs can be start- ed in pots in March or April to l)e planted in the DAHLIAS. open ground in May, when safe from frost, to encourage early blooming, or bulbs can he planted in the open ground in early May. Store bulbs in winter by packing in saw- dust or dry sand in a cel'ar free from frost. The following are selected from large collections as the best contrast in colors. Used for decorative purposes as pot plants, and ex- teusivply used for carpet beds. Some of the most beautiful beds America produces are arranged with these plants. No one can form any idea how beautiful and effective such beds can be made with the different varielies of their metallic hues, rich- ly contrasting with the Alternaiithera.
