Description
English: Celadon Soul Vase. Exhibition "Treasures of China", Canadian Museum of Civilization, 2007.
  • Western Jin Dynasty (A.D. 265 - 326)
  • Excavated at Shaoxing, Zhejiang Province
Vessels like this were believed to be "residences for the souls of the dead"; the elaborate sculptures on the top show daily life at the time, depicting buildings, watchtowers, pillars, corridors, rooms, people, and flying birds.
