English: Main railwaystation on Koningsplein (eastside) in Batavia
Nederlands: Repronegatief. In de eerste helft van de 20ste eeuw was het centrum van Batavia verschoven naar Weltevreden, met het Koningsplein als vanzelfsprekend middelpunt. Hier bevond zich het paleis van de Gouverneur-Generaal, het terrein van de Pasar Gambir, de statige Willemskerk, het museum van het Bataviaasch Genootschap, een renbaan en het hoofdstation van Batavia dat station Koningsplein of station Weltevreden werd genoemd en tegenwoordig station Gambir. De gebouwen van de Volksraad en de Raad van Indië lagen vlakbij, wat ook gold voor het Waterlooplein met het gebouw van Daendels. Menige stad in Indië had als centrum een grote vierkante grasvlakte (medan, alun-alun) waaraan de woning van de sultan of regent en de moskee lagen.
