This is a retouched picture, which means that it has been digitally altered from its original version. Modifications: levels tweaked, dust and scratches removed, and, as the chiarascuro effect made this easy, the truncated oval (ugh) was corrected back to rectangular..
Calculations
↑...Right. We know the size of this image, and the original photographic card. Cropping the unaltered original to the size of the card gives us about 1734x2450 pixels, give or take a few. Checking the ratio, 1734:2450 is about 4:5.65. This should, of course, be 4:5.5, but that's only about a 3% variance, so let's accept this as being roughly right, but not give too many significant digits.
This image is 1,648x2,242 pixels. So, starting with width (1648/1734)*4=3.8016 inches, or about 9.8 cm. However, from the ratio check, we know that the numbers can't be as accurate as that, so let's call that 4" (10cm).
Using the same sort of calculation, we get 2242/2450*5.5=5.033 inches for the height, which is about 12.78 cm. Rounding off, we get 5" (13 cm).
