Summary

Description
English: As the coronavirus pandemic in the United States grows, so does the opportunity for domestic violence. Victims of all ages and genders are now forced to stay at home or social distance with their abusers. If this is happening to you or a loved one, there are a few things you can do to make this uncertain time feel a bit safer.

Create a safety plan that is personalized and practical, includes ways to remain safe, and walks you through different scenarios. Practice self-care. Take time out for your mental health and well-being. Make sure your basic needs are met. Think of activities you might enjoy doing.

Reach out for help. Call or text 9-1-1 if you are in a crisis and need immediate help. Reach out to local services like The Hope House. You can call their hotline at 816-461-HOPE and find resources at www.hopehouse.net. There are also six other area shelters.

For more information, visit the National Domestic Violence Hotline at thehotline.org or call them at 1-800-799-7233.
