Summary

Description I found this Indigofera spicata while photographing I. hirsuta. In fact, I thought it was the same species (I don't see well) until I looked at the photo later at home. I went back the next day to get the foliage shot. This species is native is to Africa, Madagascar, Mauritius & Yemen but naturalized in other parts of the tropics. It is used for green manure, erosion control and is a minor source of indigo dye. Apparently it is toxic to herbivores if too much is eaten. I hope the local cottontail rabbits don't eat it. A pretty flower but it must be banished to the Hall of Weeds! Juno Dunes Natural Area, Palm Beach County.
