Description |
This beautiful teaching slide created by Philip Henry Gosse shows a number of different echinoderms - Ophiura a brittlestar, Comatula (now known as Antedon) a sea lily, a starfish (Asterias rubens), a ‘starlet’ (also known as a cushion star) and two sea urchins. hilip Henry Gosse (1810-1888) was a zoologist who drew illustrations of the natural world, and he is most especially known for his book and illustrations of aquariums and sea life. His books were a part of the Victorian interest into the natural world. Gosse spent his later life in St Marychurch, South Devon. The museum has many of his scale drawings of sea life, some of which relate directly to his publications. |
