Edward K. Landers Robs His Employers. Edward K. Landers, 22 years old, was arrested by Detective McBride in his home, 214½ York street, last night as a fugitive from justice. For some time Landers has been employed as an assistant bookkeeper for Young Bros., hatters, 601 Broadway, New York. He had charge of the bank and deposit books, and a part of his duty was to make the daily deposits. About two months ago Landers was granted a leave of absence for a few days. He had been complaining of ill health. While recruiting his alleged shattered health, he got married and established a home at the above number. His employers frequently communicated with him, but he still pretended to be ill, but hoped to resume his duties in a few days. At length his employers became suspicious that his accounts were not right, and began an investigation, which resulted in the discovery of a shortage in the bank balance of $800. The deposit and banking book had been changed to correspond, thus covering up the transactions. Landers was arraigned before Justice Stilsing this morning and committed to await the action of the New York authorities, with whom a charge of embezzlement has been lodged. His parents reside in Rutherford Park, and are said to be highly respected. He is a member of the Twelfth New York militia.
