Summary

Description
English: Flag used by the Cordeliers Battalion, formed in Paris during the early stages of the French Revolution; this unit was sponsored by the Cordeliers Club, but asked to be renamed in 1791, arguing that political clubs had divided the body politic (see Journal de Paris, April 26, 1791, p. 3). Depiction based on 1790 colored print by Vieilh de Varennes.
