Sanatorium Gabriels, for those in the first stages of tuberculosis, incharge of the Sisters of Mercy, was formally opened July 26th, 1897.The land is situated on an undulating plain at the Paul Smiths Station ofthe New York Central Railroad, and consists of a broad park runningalong the side of the railroad and rising gradually to a beautiful hill,Sunrise Mount, which, like a screen, shades the valley from the north winds. All around it lie the mountains of the Adirondack region, the giants ofthe range—Mount Marcy, White Face, Mt. McGregor, etc., etc., whilenot very far away beautiful Lucretia Lake spreads its waters.
