Summary

Description
English: Photograph of the Forth Bridge under construction, birds'-eye view of Inchgarvie and surrounding country. A result obtained from the apex of Queensferry cantilever after it had reached its full height, and a novel effect well worth securing both from an engineering and artistic point of view, the occasion being that of a visit of the Institute of Mechanical Engineers, as a record of which event this panoramic illustration was selected. The weather proving favourable, the Ochil Hills and the high ground in the proximity of the Firth of Tay and far beyond is shown very plainly, whilst looking across Inverkeithing Bay and to the north shore, objects appear to be immediately beneath us. The structure of Inchgarvie, and indeed the island itself, presents a most interesting spectacle, and one that will not in all likelihood be secured again for a very long time to come.
