| Description |
English: The General Land Office Building located in downtown Austin, Texas, United States. The State of Texas completed the new land office building in 1857. The building features a dramatic medieval castle style known as Rundbogenstil, or "rounded arch." William Sidney Porter, popularly known as O. Henry, worked in the Land Office as a draftsman from 1887-1891. The building was designated a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark in 1962 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places on August 25, 1970. Today it serves as the Texas Capitol Visitors Center. |
