Summary

Media data and Non-free use rationale
Description Cover of George Kirgo's second book, a satirical writer's how-to manual, published during the height of GK's brief media heyday, when, on the heels of his 1st book's publication, he was booked by Jack Paar for at least 20 guest spots on The Tonight Show btw 1959 & 1961
Author or
copyright owner
Who photographed the dust jacket? No idea. Likewise, the designer of the DJ's layout. The one who photographed Kirgo, is, as u can see, Elliott Erwitt.

Purpose of use in article (

for visual identification of the person in question, at the top of his/her biographical article
Not replaceable with
free media because
(
WP:NFCC#1
)
A free image of THIS item - i.e. the cover of Kirgo's second book - cannot be found because the copyright on this 1960 book was renewed in 1988 and thus should not expire till 2055. A different image altogether most definitely COULD be found. I correspond frequently w/ Kirgo's daughter Julie (in fact, as u can see, I cited a recent email from her 2 clarify a marginal point in this article). I have no doubt she could easily provide any number of alternative images (similarly, if u feel the need, I'm sure we can get from her any necessary authorization for this image, since it is, after all, the Kirgo estate that holds the copyright in question) That being said, I believe THIS image is absolutely ideal for this relatively brief Wikipedia article, in that, with one image, we can represent Kirgo, both as the author and the humorist, while presenting a likeness of him, just as he appeared at the height of his talk-&-game-show celebrity.
Minimal use (
WP:NFCC#3
)
As I've explained, this represents just the cover of the item being sold, it's a low res image, and this is absolutely the only use envisaged for it; the book, in and of itself, is quite obscure & will clearly never warrant its own article (nor more than a passing mention even within THIS article). Moreover, this image is in fact cropped - being simply a cropped version of the image I uploaded about an hour ago, cutting off both Kirgo's name and that of his photographer, since, as i see now, given all the other text present, they simply made the image too cluttered.
Respect for
commercial opportunities
(
WP:NFCC#2
)
If anything, this use would help those opportunities, providing, as it were, free advertising. Since the image is not that of the product being marketed, but merely its cover (the cover, mind u, of an EXTREMELY obscure book), its presence on Wikipedia can only serve to increase awareness of the product's existence. Any individual whose curiosity is aroused - at least any who's ever purchased anything online - would almost certainly turn to Amazon for info and/or to purchase.
Other information The subject of the photograph has been deceased since: 2004
