Gold flower shaped Diadem, found in te Pyramid of King Talakhamani (435–431 B.C.) at Nuri, Nubia. Napatan Period. MFA, Boston ©Hans Ollermann. Exhibition NUBIA Land of the Black Pharaohs - Drents Museum, Assen, Netherlands. The exhibition is a collaboration of the Drents Museum in Zwolle, and the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. Between 1907 and 1928 researchers from the museum in Boston were involved in the excavations of the finds in Nubia, which is why the American museum now has the most diverse Nubian collection in the world. Here you find a link to the website of the MFA: www.mfa.org/ From Nuri. pyramid 16 (tomb of Talakhamani), chamber A. 1916: excavated by the Harvard University–Boston Museum of Fine Arts Expedition Talakhamani was a Kushite King of Meroe during the second half of the 5th century BCE. No prenomen is known, and his nomen is Talakhamani. He may have been a son of Nasakhma and a younger brother of Malewiebamani. It is also possible Talakhamani is a son of Malewiebamani. Talakhamani is known from a stela from his chapel which is now in Boston. According to an inscription in Kawa he died in his palace at Meroe. He is said to have been succeeded by Amanineteyerike at the age of 41. |
