DescriptionGreeting party from Juneau and Douglas delegations, 1956 Alaska Federation of Women's Clubs convention.jpg
English: Verso caption: "On hand to greet delegates to the Convention arriving at the airport at Juneau were Mrs. J. Gerald Williams, Mrs. Maurice Kelly, Mrs. Joseph Alexander, (rear) Mrs. Mildred Hermann, Mrs. Jack Martin, Mrs. Beryl Shuman, Mrs. Helen Sheehan, and Mrs. Rolf Fremming, all members of the Juneau and Douglas Woman's Clubs."
This was taken prior to the start of the 1956 convention of the Alaska Federation of Women's Clubs. And yes, they incorporated the style of the day, in which married women were referred to by their husband's names and widowed women were referred to by their own names. Harriet Williams, who was elected president of the organization at this convention, was the wife of then-attorney general J. Gerald Williams. Mrs. Joseph Alexander is better known as Katie Hurley. Mildred Hermann was a well-known local attorney and at that point had recently returned to Juneau after serving as a delegate to the constitutional convention.
