He appeared at the Manhat-tan Opera-House in September, 1909, in thepreliminary season, and appeared to be a tenorof good promise, — young, good physique, andpossessing a manly voice. Gustav Huberdeau has been in America sev-eral seasons and has built up a reputation as asatisfactory and reliable singer. He is notedfor his devil parts, for he sings Mephisto-feles in Faust, the Devil in Griselidis,Mephisto in The Damnation of Faust M(Berlioz), and-Satan in Cesar Francks ora-torio The Beatitudes, in addition to whichhe has ready for performance, Mefisto inBoitos opera Men stof ele. M. Huberdeau was born and educated inParis, a member of a military family. He sangas a boy in a church choir, and having goodmusical talent and no taste for a military life,
