Ora Elise Scheel (https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/137048997/ora-elise-scheel ) was owner of the farm Hoba West, site of the world's largest meteorite. She was married to Dr RWJ Scheel, medical surgeon in Grootfontein, who bought and gifted the farm to her. Ora Scheel hosted an informal system of visits by casual visitors and international scholars. Photo shows Ora Scheel on the right with an unknown visitor to the meteorite in 1952. Both Ora and Dr Scheel were interested in science and astronomy; Ora, an ex-teacher was an amateur geologist and rock collector and was instrumental in having the meteorite declared a national monument in 1955. Photo bequeathed and owned by grandchild Prof T Scheel Monteiro, dept of Physics & Astronomy, UCL, London, released by permission of owner.
