Summary
DescriptionIRIS AGGELER -IRIS ATMA -RAAL KI VICTORIEUX -SELF PORTRAIT -PAINTING -FEMALE ARTIST.jpg |
English: The artist observes the spectator, along with three toucans resting in the branches of what we assume is a landscape in shades of lime green, blue and yellow. The red lips and cheeks of the painter match with the flower over the left side of her torso, and the birds beaks. The simplicity of the self-portrait underscores the sense of calm in nature. Toucans represent the need to be heard -on beliefs, feelings-, as if the author send them as emissaries, and as defence, since she seems to hide or protect herself behind them. The work coincides with the period in which Iris had returned to her mother’s home in the coastal area of the South of Mexico, after beginning his studies in Visual Arts (from 1991 to 1994 she coursed the career of painter in La Esmeralda, in Mexico city). It seems that she is looking for a way to return to which she had “renounced” -the painting- linking it with birds from the tropic -the landscape that symbolises the family home-. Also; toucans talk about the talent for the stage; what could have been an indication of the future experiments of the creator into the performance arts.
Iris Aggeler is known as Iris Atma, Iris Mexico, and Ra'al Ki Victorieux, Atma Unum.
