English: Impression of Edinburgh Castle before the 'Lang Siege' of 1573
"On the fore parte estwarde next the town stands like 80 foot of the haule and next unto the same stands Davyes Towre, and from it a courteen [curtain wall] with 6 cannons ... and behend the same standes another teer of ordnance like 16 foot clym above the other; and at the northe end stands the Constable's Towre, and in the bottom of the same is the way into the Castle with forty steps." -- A Survey of the Castle and towne of Edinburgh, Jan. 1572-3, published in the Bannatyne Club Miscellany
