Drie jaar later eindigde hij als eerste in de Paganiniwedstrijd. Sindsdien veroverde hij de hele wereld, steeds zijn bescheiden en integere zelve blijvend. Naast zijn drukke solocarrière maakt hij graag tijd voor kamermuziek met bevriende collega's, die hij altijd keurig weet uit te kiezen. U hoort stuk voor stuk eersteklasmusici in heerlijk repertoire met een zigeunertintje. Het beroemde 'Zigeunertrio' van Haydn werd zo genoemd naar het rondodeel 'all'Ongharese'. Haydn kende de Hongaarse zigeunermuziek van zijn jarenlange verblijf in Esterháza aan de Hongaarse grens. Ook Brahms bleef niet ongevoelig voor de zigeunerstijl, getuige daarvan zijn 'Hongaarse Dansen'. Ook in de finale van zijn Tweede Pianokwartet verwerkte hij zigeunermelodieën. À côté de sa carrière bien remplie de soliste, il aime faire de la musique de chambre avec des amis collègues du plus haut niveau. Vous entendrez chaque fois des musiciens de première classe dans un superbe répertoire aux accents tziganes. Le célèbre trio de Haydn, le 'Trio tzigane', fut baptisé ainsi d'après le mouvement en rondo 'all'Ongharese'. C'est grâce à son séjour de plusieurs années à Esterháza à la frontière hongroise que Haydn connaissait la musique tzigane hongroise. Brahms ne resta pas non plus indifférent au style tzigane ; en témoignent ses 'Danses hongroises'. Il incorpora aussi des mélodies tziganes dans le finale de son Deuxième quatuor à clavier. Alongside his busy solo career, he manages to find the time to play chamber music with a hand-picked selection of colleague friends. All first class musicians playing a delightful repertory with a hint of the gypsy. Haydn's famous 'Gypsy Trio' was named after the Rondo section, called 'all' Ongharese'. Haydn had become familiar with Hungarian gypsy music during his many years' stay in Esterháza at the Hungarian border. Brahms also came under the influence of the gypsy style, which is borne out in his 'Hungarian Dances'. He also worked gypsy melodies into the final of his Second Piano quartet. |
