Description
Above you may find one of the most extraordinary examples of early seventeenth century top class art. Painted by Jan Lievens it depicts one of the two most important men in the crusader era after a decisive moment in battle. You may find King Guy of Lusignan to the right and you may find King Saladin to the left. It portrays a sadness and glory. Sadness for the Dutch painter through the eyes of King Lusignan. Respect and glory in the depiction of King Saladin by his magnificent golden regalia and his Islamic royal green colour of cloathing. His counterpart is portrayed while enchained in golden rings while wearing the Western royal red cloathes. It is from a transnational artistical importance that this work is preserved to the best it can.
