English: This painting was cut in two and was rejoined in 1996[1] (thus two ID numbers, for two separate original owners and provenance records). The painting is still smaller than it was - it is missing drapery on the left and has been cropped all around.
English: Jan Steen may be influenced by Tobias and Sarah, by Nicolaus Knupfer which shows a similar composition.
