Magyar: Képes krónika (134.oldal) - A budai papok kiátkozzák a pápát "E" iniciáléban A budai papok kiátkozzák a pápát. Harangtornyos templom előtt két "hamis" pap áll. Az egyikük jobb kezében égő gyertyát tart, a baljával harangoz. A másik pap jobbjában könyvet tart, baljával a földön ülő püspökre, a dominikánus Miklós bíborosra (a későbbi XI. Benedek pápa) mutat. A krónika szerint a bíboros Károly Róbert támogatása érdekében jött Magyarországra. Megbízatásának azonban nem tudott érvényt szerezni. Távozásakor interdictum alá helyezte Buda város polgárait. Egyes budai papok ez elleni tiltakozásul kiátkozták a pápát. A kép beállítása a szöveggel ellentétben a "hamis" papok mellett szól. English: Chronicon Pictum (Page 134) - The priests of Buda curse the pope In the initial "E", two "false" priests are standing in front of a church with a bell tower. One of them holds a burning candle in his right hand and rings a bell with his left. The other priest holds a book in his right hand and points to the bishop sitting on the ground with his left hand: the Dominican Cardinal Nicola, the later Pope Benedict XI. According to the chronicle, the cardinal came to Hungary to support Charles Robert, however, he was unable to enforce his commission. Upon his departure, he placed the citizens of the city of Buda under an interdict. Some priests from Buda cursed the Pope in protest. The setting of the image, contrary to the text, speaks in favor of the "false" priests. |
