Summary

Description
English: On September 9, 2013, Ambassador Norland, accompanied by a Pre-Election Delegation led by Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor Tom Melia and USAID Assistant Administrator for Europe and Eurasia Paige Alexander, attended an airshow to express appreciation for the contributions of émigré Georgian aircraft designer Alexander Kartveli to American military aircraft. Alexander Kartveli, well known for designing aircraft like the P-47 “Thunderbolt” and the A-10 “Thunderbolt II”, which is still used by the U.S. Air Force today, was at the forefront of U.S.-Georgia cooperation in providing international security. During the airshow, Ambassador Norland remarked that “We are proud of our partnership with Georgia, and hope our two countries can continue to work together with the same spirit of hard work, innovation, and partnership which Kartveli brought from Tbilisi to America.”
