Summary

Description Lanternfish are a mesopelagic species that migrate from the deep midwater (800-1000 m) to shallower depths (200 - 300 m) during the night. They migrate at night to feed and avoid predation from larger species, and return back to the deep midwater during the day. Lanternfish are among the most abundant and diverse of all oceanic fish families. NOAA/OER.
