Description
Sobre fondo oscuro, la prima y esposa del artista está representada de busto, en un ligero giro a la derecha. Viste de azul con los hombros cubiertos por un tul negro transparente y con el cabello recogido. El cuadro fue realizado, cuando la joven contaba unos 21 años y tiempo antes de su matrimonio, y en él, Rosales aborda y plasma con gran libertad sentimientos de ternura y amor hacia la retratada. Además de la manifiesta influencia velazqueña, es de resaltar la técnica rápida y suelta de su ejecución combinada con elementos de mayor modernidad muy cercanos a algunos aspectos de la obra de Manet o Degas, especialmente destacados en la plasticidad de algunos objetos como el tul, la flor del escote o la hebilla del cinturón. La obra fue pintada sobre un bastidor rectangular, para ser enmarcada en óvalo.
