Summary

Description
English: Taken from the Morning Bulletin, Wednesday 1 May, 1946:

TANNUM BEACH

One of the more recently opened up seaside resorts adjacent to Gladstone, Tannum Beach, is becoming more popular every year, and would be even more popular if improved road access was provided.

Situated South of Gladstone and some 17 miles distant from the town, it is not ony favoured by Gladstone residents, but by residents of the Bororen and Miriam Vale area, many of whom have erected seaside cottages there. The beach could not be excelled anywhere, and the Tannum Progress Association is doing everything possible to improve conditions, mainly an improved road.

During Easter there was a larger number of people at Tannum than on any previous occasion. They numbered at least 250. Sand garden competitions and sports were arranged, with dancing at night time, and these attractions brought a number of people from the neighbouring resort at Boyne Island.

The main part of the beach had been roped off for the sand garden competitions, which 19 children took part, and national and other flags and bunting gave the scene a gay appearance. A treasure hunt for children under 10 was also a feature. Mr Andrew was present with his public address system, which was much appreciated, this being used to supply the music for the dance at night time.

Mrs Yum and Mr J. Geraghty were the judges for the sand garden competition and they were so impressed with the displays, that they donated prizes for all those who did not participate in the prizes provided by the committee.
