Uniforms of the German Labour Front (German: Deutsche Arbeitsfront, DAF)
  • NSBO-Mann
The National Socialist Factory Cell Organization (German: Nationalsozialistische Betriebszellenorganisation, NSBO) was a workers organization in Nazi Germany. More organized and better represented at national level, the DAF ended up absorbing the NSBO in 1935.
  • Factory Brigade member (Werkschar-Mann)
The German Labour Front was the labour organisation under the Nazi Party which replaced the various independent trade unions in Nazi Germany under Adolf Hitler. The two main components of the DAF were Nationalsozialistische Betriebszellenorganisation (NSBO; National Socialist Factory Organization) and Nationalsozialistische Handels- und Gewerbeorganisation (NSHAGO; National Socialist Trade and Industry Organization). Sub-organisations were Kraft durch Freude (KdF; Strength through Joy) and Schönheit der Arbeit (SdA; Beauty of Labour) etc. Werkschar (Factory Brigade) personnel were used as worksite and factory police to ensure no work slow downs or other interference from inside or outside the work force. Kraft durch Freude (German: "Strength through Joy", abbreviated KdF) was a state-operated leisure organization in Nazi Germany 1933–1939.
In November 1933 dark blue uniforms and emblems were provided for all members of the Labour Front which had to be obtained at the expense of the members. Rank was indicated by a series of arm chevrons; silver for lower rank and gold for senior positions (see "NSDAP organizations Collar Tab and Shoulder Board Identification Guide" at www.germandaggers.com). Four colours were adopted to indicate various State levels for the DAF Werkscharführer; yellow for DAF Oberst-Werkscharführer; red for DAF Gau-Werkscharführer, black for DAF Kreis-Werkscharführer and light blue for DAF Haupt-Werkscharführer and Werkscharführer. These four colours were used as piping to the shoulder straps and for the coloured lanyards worn on the uniform.

Cropped page from Organisationsbuch der NSDAP issued by the Nazi Party's national organizational leader (Reichsorganisationsleiter) Robert Ley for the Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiter-Partei, Reichsorganisationsamt; published in 1936 by Zentralverlag der NSDAP, Franz Eher Nachf., München; circa 550 pages, 71 pages of plates; German language; letters in Fraktur style typefaces.

The National Socialist German Workers' Party (German: Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei, NSDAP) was a far-right, nationalist, antisemitic and anti-Marxist political party in Germany between 1920 and 1945. The Nazi Party command structure was divided into the general membership (Parteimitglieder), the political leadership corps (Politische Leiter), the upper command levels encompassed by the Gauleiter and Reichsleiter, and the position of Führer held by Adolf Hitler as supreme leader. Ranks of the Nazi Party were paramilitary titles. All political leaders wore official uniforms, while regular party members wore civilian clothing with a standard party badge. The uniforms, ranks and insignia of the Nazi party and its sub-organizations – Sturmabteilung (SA), Schutzstaffel (SS), Hitler Youth, etc. – underwent several changes.
