Summary

Description Worldwide view of plankton from NASA's Sea-viewing Wide Field-of-view Sensor. Averaged data over seven years from 1998 to 2004. Original caption - "This image shows average Northern Hemisphere Spring ocean chlorophyll concentrations (light green) produced from all data acquired 1998 - 2004 represent the distribution and abundance of the microscopic plants called phytoplankton that not only form the base of the marine food web, but are responsible for approximately half of the Earth's primary production."
