Portrait de Madeleine dit aussi Portrait d'une femme noire oeuvre présentée au Salon de 1800 sous le titre : Portrait d'une négresse. oeuvre de Marie-Guillemine Benoist (1768-1826) 1800 Huile sur toile Paris, musée du Louvre, département des peintures acquis en 1818 Brillante élève de David, l’artiste s’affirme ici avec audace : peindre la carnation noire était un exercice rare et peu enseigné car jugé ingrat. Le regard grave, la pose calme et le sein dénudé donnent au modèle anonyme la noblesse d’une allégorie, peut-être celle de l’esclavage récemment aboli.
