Title
Post Medieval silver Claddagh ring
Description
English: An incomplete medieval silver finger ring, of the style known as a Claddagh ring. Only the bezel remains, which takes the form of an openwork crowned heart held on both sides by clenched hands. Jones (1877:320) writes about these rings frequently being matrimonial rings, often passed from mother to daughter. Almost identical finger rings one can be seen on the PAS database refs. KENT-F67CF2 and SOMDOR-20FAC4. This ring probably dates from the late fifteenth or early sixteenth century.
