The oil engine is a four-stroke, six-cylinder, tngersoll-Rand engine of 1434-inch bore and 16-inch stroke. It the lighting and control circuits will be supplied directh\ the motor-generator set instead of from the batlthe latter floating on the line. The locomotive is provided with cab lights in bothoperating and engine compartments. Drop lights arc alsoprovided in the engine compartment. All lights, includingheadlights, arc connected to the 32-volt circuit. A dimmini; resistance is provided fur each headlight. Meters are located on an illuminated gauge panel ateach operating station. k .V- t- * ** Oil-Electric Locomotive for Road Service develops 750 horsepower at a speed of 500 r.p.m. Itis of the solid-injection type, fuel oil being delivered tothe cylinders by a pump driven by the engine. The oilgoes through a distributor which is timed to registerwith the.power stroke of each cylinder. The General Electric equipment consists of main andauxiliary generators, four traction motors, the necessarycontrol for the operation of the locomotive alone or inmultiple with another locomotive of the same type, andelectric auxiliaries, lights and meters. The tractionmotors are the same type as used on the Type O switch-ing locomotives of the New York Central Lines. Thesemotors will develop, at their one-hour rating, a tractiveeffort of 30,600 pounds, and a tractive effort of 20,800pounds at their continuous rating.
