"This artwork by S. Chandrasekaran is titled “Visvayoni”. It is based on a performance by the artist who is the current Head of the McNally School of Fine Arts at LASALLE.
In this work’s title, 'yoni' refers to the Sanskrit word for 'womb', which is also the symbol for Shakti, the Mother Goddess in Hinduism. In the performance, the artist re-enacted the phenomenon of conception and birth to symbolise the simultaneous processes of creation and change in the universe.
