  • Nazi propaganda poster of World War II calling for Croatians to join the Croatian SS mountain division or the German gendarmerie:

HRVATI! JAVLJAJTE SE U DRAGOVOLJAČKE 44 POSTROJBE
a) Hrvatsku dragovoljačku gorsku 4-diviziju,
b) Njemačko redarstvo u Hrvatskoj.
Uvjete, pobliže upute i prijavnice dobit ćete kod:
1) svih službenih 44-jedinica i jedinica Njemačkog redarstva u Hrvatskoj,
2) svih hrvatskih oružničkih i redarstvenih jedinica, gdje ćete dobiti i bezplatne vozne izprave do najbližeg sabirnog 44 tabora.
Pismene se prijave vrše na službene prijavne urede i Njemačko redarstvo u Hrvatskoj. Osiek 1, poštanski pretinac 12

CROATIANS! REPORT TO VOLUNTEER 44 UNITS
a) Croatian Volunteer Mountain 4th Division,
b) German Police Force in Croatia.
You will receive conditions, detailed instructions, and application forms from:
1) all official 44 units and German Police Force units in Croatia
2)all Croatian military and police units, where you in will also receive free transportation to the nearest 44 camp.
Written applications are made at official registration offices and the German Police Force in Croatia. Osijek 1, post office box 12.

  • The German-Croatian Police (German: Deutsch-Kroatische Polizei; Croatian: Hrvatsko-Njemačko Redarstvo), also known as the German-Croatian SS Police and Gendarmerie, was a force established by the SS for internal security operations in the Independent State of Croatia. In all, 32,000 Croats served in the various units of this Police force, under German command, with the task of preserving order and help defend Axis strategic positions throughout the country.
  • The Independent State of Croatia (Serbo-Croatian: Nezavisna Država Hrvatska, NDH; German: Unabhängiger Staat Kroatien; Italian: Stato indipendente di Croazia) was a World War II-era puppet state of Nazi Germany[7][8][9] and Fascist Italy. It was established in parts of occupied Yugoslavia on 10 April 1941, after the invasion by the Axis powers. Its territory consisted of most of modern-day Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as some parts of modern-day Serbia and Slovenia, but also excluded many Croat-populated areas in Dalmatia (until late 1943), Istria, and Međimurje regions (which today are part of Croatia).
