Description
English: Scroll 3 from 'Tale of Ōeyama' (Ōeyama emaki) the text accompanied by illustrations painted in ink, colours and gold on paper; made in Japan in the mid-17th century. One of a set of three handscrolls telling the popular tale of the brave warrior Raikō's defeat of the ogre Shuten Dōji. In Scroll 3, Raikō and his men overcome the monstrous Shuten Dōji and his followers, rescuing the women they had held captive. Chester Beatty Library J 1145.3
