English: The Martyrs' Memorial, Stratford-le-Bow. Illustration for The Graphic, 13 September 1879.
The Martyrs' Memorial in the churchyard of St John the Evangelist Church, Stratford, Essex, commemorates the 13 Protestants burned at the stake nearby in 1556, and others persecuted for their faith during the reign of Queen Mary I. Designed by J. Newman, and constructed by H. Johnson and Co, it was unveiled by Lord Shaftesbury on 2 August 1879.
