English: This plaque was added to the statue in 2012 in response to complaints that JP Coen had been a very brute despot, and shouldn't be honored with a statue. The city council chose to add a description instead of removing the statue.
Nederlands: wp:nl: In Nederland zijn er verschillende monumenten die aan Coen herinneren. Het bekendste is het negentiende-eeuwse bronzen standbeeld in Hoorn, met daarop de woorden 'Dispereert niet'. [..] Reeds voor de plechtige onthulling was het beeld omstreden. Na een burgerinitiatief werd meer dan honderd jaar later, in juli 2011, in de gemeenteraad van Hoorn gestemd over het wijzigen of aanvullen van de tekst op de sokkel.[38] Op 13 maart 2012 besloot de gemeenteraad van Hoorn aan het standbeeld een uitgebreide tekst in het Nederlands en Engels toe te voegen waarin gemeld wordt dat Coen omstreden is, onder meer door zijn optreden op Banda. |
