Bu.siness conditions are so good that at times the demand for flowers goes unfilled. Chrysanthemums are earlier than usual and although being grown in larger quantities than ever they are none too plentiful. The Canadian Thanksgiving day. October 28, gave an unprecedented amount of trade for Sat- urda.v, the twenty-sixth, and the mar- ket was cleaned up of all available stock. American Beauty roses are fine and meet with ready sale. Yellow roses still continue to hold their pop- ularity and are. hard to get at times. Ed. Molly, Richmond, the Killarneys and Brides are all in good shape but not nearly plentiful enough to go around. The carnation growers have struck it right and have their stock looking better than for many seasons past. The blooms at present are many of them up to the mid-winter quality and are hardly left enough time on the plants to develop properly. Lily of the valley and violets are both plentiful and good, as are orchids, especially cattleyas and oncidiums. The season has been poor for good colored oak or maple foliage and many cibotium and nephrolepis ferns are being used, of which there is a good supply. NOTES. The Steele Briggs Co. can always be depended on for some good chrysan- themums, their Bonnaffon being the first in this locality. Pink and white Ivory as they grow them are an addition to any florist's stock, and both Pennsyl- vania and Philadelphia, forgotten by many, are superior to many of the new'er varieties. W. Fendle.v has been changing the returns in his plant and installing more boilers, one of which caused him the loss of several teeth and some bad bruises as the result of an accident. However, he has been haj-d at work getting his violets housed. His plants are in fine shape and producing good flowers. R. Jennings has had a lot of trouble with moths which have invaded the chrysanthemum houses and done con- siderable damage. In spite of this he is cutting some good blooms and the carnations were never better. Grobba & Wandrey. having added to their storage facilities, are going ex- tensively into growing valley. Cycla- men, of which they grow large quanti- ties, is being marketed. — Mitchell, (if the Woodstock Floral Co.. was a recent visitor. He has been sending in chrysanthemums, carnations and violets, all of which show careful growing. H. G. D. W.viTKsncKo.
