These represe»*atlons, including the back view shown in Fig. 361, give a good idea of the costume.The Votary wears a skirtof many flounces over whichis the same double apronand the sleeved bodice, cutaway so as to expose thebosom and laced in front.Round her waist in place ofthe snakes is what appearsto be a tight-fitting metalbelt into which the lowerborder of the bodice istucked. The lines adoptedare those considered idealby the modern corset-makerrather than the sculptor Vand the effect is that of afashionable Court lady.
